My favorite brewing method!
A French press is a method of brewing coffee that results in a richer, thicker cup than a traditional drip method. The French press utilizes coarsely ground coffee in a glass or metal cylinder, and utilizes a fine mesh plunger to press the grounds to the bottom of the container after steeping. Because of the coarse grind, fewer bitter components are extracted, and a good amount of coffee oils are expressed. There is also a bit more fine particulate in the liquid, giving the coffee a lighter appearance and a thicker mouthfeel.
The best French presses will have a silicone gasket instead of a coiled spring on the plunger. Be sure to regularly wash the mesh with soap and water to avoid stale coffee taste.
