About the Recipe
If you cover the buns after they come out of the oven, the steam will soften the crust. If you shape the dough into a loaf, you can make a hoagie roll!
Ingredients
4 cups AP flour
2 cups bread flour
1 tbsp salt
1/4 cup dark brown sugar
2 eggs
2 tbsp olive oil
1/2 stick unsalted butter, softened
1 packet instant yeast (about 1 1/4 oz)
2 cups milk
1 egg for egg wash
Preparation
Measure out milk, add pinch of sugar
Heat milk in microwave until warm, 100-105 F
Sprinkle yeast over milk, let sit until frothy (about 10 minutes)
Combine dry ingredients in mixer
Add remaining wet ingredients to milk mixture
Slowly pour wet mixture into dry on low
Add butter and mix until dough comes together
Move dough to lightly greased bowl, cover and let rise for at least 1 hour
Punch down dough
Shape dough into even balls, place on parchment lined baking sheet
Cover and proof for at lest 30 minutes
Heat oven to 375 F
Brush buns thoroughly with egg wash
Bake for 10-15 minutes or until golden brown
Brush with melted butter
